Boomers Sign Bren Spillane to Bolster 2025 Roster

Manager Jamie Bennett and the Schaumburg Boomers are excited to announce the signing of Outfielder Bren Spillane. The former 3rd round draft pick and Wheeling native brings a middle of the order presence with Frontier League experience to Wintrust Field this summer.
"We are excited about having Bren with us,” said manager Jamie Bennett. “I have seen him from the other side of the field and have seen firsthand what he can do. Bren brings experience and is the kind of guy that can be a game changer from both sides of the ball. His presence on the field and in the clubhouse will be a great asset for our club.”
Spillane joins the Boomers to build upon an already successful college and professional career. After being initially drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates out of Wheeling High School where he was a first team all-state choice, Bren opted to play collegiately at the University of Illinois from 2016-18. Spillane exploded for the Illini as a junior in 2018 after moving from the outfield to first base, compiling one of the best seasons in program history. Bren hit .389 with 23 homeruns and drove home 60 runs. He racked up countless awards including Big Ten Player of the Year, Baseball America All-American, and Collegiate Baseball Newspaper National Player of the Year. Spillane, who was one of only three unanimous All-Americans in 2018, was the 82nd player selected in the 2018 MLB Draft when the Cincinnati Reds called his name in the third round. Spillane was the highest drafted position player in program history at Illinois.
Bren spent three years with the Cincinnati organization, making stops in Billings and Dayton. Bren began his Reds career in Billings, Montana and hit .237 with five homeruns and 22 RBIs in 2018. He also added nine doubles, three triples 28 runs and 30 walks to log an on-base percentage of .375 with a .439 slugging percentage. The next two seasons were spent with the Dayton Dragons in Class-A during 2019 and High-A in 2021. For his career, Spillane totaled 12 homeruns and 47 RBIs in 122 games with a .331 on-base percentage and a .369 slugging percentage.
Bren played in the Frontier League for the Windy City Thunderbolts during the 2022 and 2023 season, appearing in 134 games. Spillane was a constant two-way threat during his time with Windy City, belting 28 homers to go with 85 RBIs. During 2023, Bren was successful in 27-of-28 stolen base attempts while drilling 16 homers. The 16 long balls rank among the most in Windy City single season history. Spillane slashed .247/.355/.490 in 2023.
The Boomers open the season at Wintrust Field on May 8. Season tickets, ticket packages and group tickets are all on sale for the 2025 season.
