Pair of Pitchers Return to the Pen for 2025

Boomers Manager Jamie Bennett has re-signed two pitchers from the 2024 staff, Hambleton Oliver and Matt Helwig. Both Oliver and Helwig made their professional debut with the Boomers last season.
Hambleton Oliver joined the Boomers on June 25th after completing his collegiate career with the Mountaineers of West Virginia. Oliver posted a record of 2-2 in 21 appearances, finishing with a 4.89 ERA with 39 strikeouts in 40 innings. The Mountaineers made it to the Chapel Hill Super Regional after winning the Tucson Regional. Prior to his 1 season in Morgantown, Hambleton played 4 years with the Baylor Bears. For his career at Baylor, Hambleton recorded a record of 6-5 in 73 appearances, striking out 86 batters over 101 innings. For the Boomers in 2024, originally from 20 batters in 24 innings and posted Corpus Christi, TX, struck out a 2.96 ERA. Hambleton looks to be a solid part of the bullpen rotation in 2025.
Matt Helwig is back for his second season in Schaumburg. During his first season with the Boomers, the Mokena, IL native, had two stints with the team after being signed by the Minnesota Twins on June 6th. Prior to being signed, Helwig walked only two batters while striking out 17 in 12 innings of work out of the bullpen. He was 2-0 with a 0.75 ERA at that point of the season. With the Twins FCL team, Helwing was 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA with one save. Matt struck out an additional five batters in six innings after returning to the Boomers toward the end of the 2024 campaign.
