Boomers Rally to Win on Opening Night

WASHINGTON, Pa. — The Schaumburg Boomers faced a pair of deficits on the road in Pennsylvania but rallied to kick off the 2024 season with a 6-3 victory over the Washington Wild Things on Friday night.
Washington opened the scoring with a solo homer from Wagner Lagrange in the bottom of the second. Tyler Depreta-Johnson tied the game with one out in the top of the third, connecting on a solo homer in his first at bat with the team following three years with Joliet. Kyle Fitzgerald gave the Boomers their first lead of the season with the third hit of the inning, an RBI single to knock home Chase Dawson.
Andrew Czech homered connected on a two-run homer in the bottom of the fourth to put Washington ahead once again at 3-2. Ryan McCarthy evened the score with a solo homer in the top of the sixth and the Boomers tacked on three more in the seventh to account for the final.
Aaron Glickstein worked five innings in his first career opening night start and did not factor in the decision, allowing three runs on two hits, both homers. Cristian Lopez garnered the win in relief with two scoreless frames, fanning three. Dylan Stutsman tossed the eighth and Jake Joyce collected his first save of the season.
The offense put together seven hits, four for extra bases. Depreta-Johnson doubled, homered and scored twice in his debut. Fitzgerald picked up two hits including a double while McCarthy knocked home a pair. Dawson scored twice.
The season opening series will continue on Saturday night at 6:05 pm in Pennsylvania. LHP Cole Cook, the 2023 Frontier League Pitcher of the Year, is slated to make his Schaumburg debut against LHP Kobe Foster.
The Boomers open the home portion of the schedule on Monday night at 6:30pm against the Tri-City ValleyCats.
