Boomers Rally to Doubleheader Sweep

CRESTWOOD, Ill. — After posting a 3-0 shutout in the opener, the 2021 Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers scored four times with two outs in the top of the sixth to rally to an 8-6 win in the second contest to sweep a scheduled Sunday road doubleheader from the Windy City ThunderBolts.

GAME ONE
The Boomers took advantage of a pair of errors by Windy City to plate two unearned runs in the top of the third in the opener. Chase Dawson registered an inside-the-park homer in the fifth to account for the final run, which was more than enough for the pitching staff.

Kobey Schlotman did not allow a hit until there were two outs in the bottom of the fifth, striking out seven to earn his third win of the season and his second as a starter. Darrell Thompson took over after Tanner Shears tossed the sixth and worked a perfect seventh with two strikeouts to pick up his 12th save of the year. Braxton Davidson tallied a pair of hits as the Boomers finished with four in the victory.

GAME TWO
Schaumburg opened a 2-0 lead in the second game behind a pair of runs in the third. Blake Berry registered an RBI single and William Salas worked a bases loaded walk. Windy City scored the next five runs to lead 5-2. Trailing 6-4 with two outs in the sixth, Davidson knocked home two runs with a double and the go-ahead run scored on an error. Salas followed with an RBI double to cap the comeback.

Miguel Reyes worked four innings in his second start. Kristian Scott earned the win in relief. Luis Perez worked the sixth in his return and Jake Joyce tallied his fifth save with a perfect seventh. Berry, Davidson and Salas all logged two hits as the Boomers finished with nine. Davidson has now reached base in 35 consecutive games.

The Boomers (43-34) continue the longest roadtrip of the season on Tuesday night at Lake Erie. RHP Shumpei Yoshikawa (5-8, 5.92) is slated to make the start in the 6:05 pm Central game. The team returns home on August 23. The 2022 season is winding down. Don’t miss your chance to see one of the final 10 home games before summer comes to a close.
