RECAP: Weather Hampers Pitching Performances

WASHINGTON, Pa. — The 2013 Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, dropped a 2-1 road decision to the East Division leading Washington Wild Things in the opener of a doubleheader before the second contest was suspended due to rain prior to the bottom of the fifth.
Gam one saw a pitcher’s battle between Schaumburg’s Rey Rodriguez and Washington’s Chris Phelan, who pitched for the Boomers last year. The contest started two hours late due to rain. Schaumburg grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the sixth on a Jordan Dean triple followed by a Ryan McChesney RBI single. Washington was able to win the game with a pair of solo homers in the bottom of the inning. Dean and McChesney finished with two hits in the contest. Dean has hit safely in eight straight contests, longest this season for the Boomers. Rodriguez threw a complete game in the loss.
Game two featured a pair of delays before finally suspending the contest in a scoreless game. Schaumburg starter Seth Webster had thrown four no-hit innings, allowing just a walk with four strikeouts. Ty Nelson and Tyler Sciacca posted hits for the Boomers.
The second contest will be completed at 4:05 p.m. Central followed by a seven inning contest. LHP Danny Jimenez (1-1, 5.40) starts the second game on Thursday with 2013 Frontier League Pitcher of the Year RHP Scott Dunn (2-1, 3.64) on the hill for the Wild Things. The contest can be heard live on AM 1410 WRMN with the Voice of the Boomers and 2013 Frontier League Broadcaster of the Year, Tim Calderwood.
