RECAP: Magic Number Down to One After 3-2 Win

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — Seth Webster won his fifth consecutive start, putting the Schaumburg Boomers to the brink of a West Division title as the Boomers posted a 3-2 win over the Frontier Greys on Thursday night.
Webster worked eight innings, allowing just two runs with four strikeouts to improve to 6-1 on the season. The Boomers now own a magic number of just one to secure their first ever playoff slot.
Michael Valadez opened the scoring with a two out two-run single in the bottom of the fourth to score Sean Mahley and Frank Pfister. Gerard Hall extended the lead to 3-0 with a sacrifice fly in the fifth, scoring Jordan Dean. Mahley posted two hits in the win.
The Boomers (55-35) will take to the road for a three game weekend set with the Evansville Otters. Two of the top hurlers in the league tangle in the opener Friday night at 6:35 p.m. with All-Star RHP Chris Phelan (6-2, 2.27) on the hill for the Boomers against LHP Matt Zielinski (9-6, 3.51).
