Normal Salvages Game From Boomers

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — The Normal CornBelters scored five runs in the top half of the first inning and never looked back on the way to a 9-3 win over the Schaumburg Boomers on Thursday night.
Normal grabbed a 3-0 lead four batters into the game when Romulo Ruiz recorded a bases clearing double. The Boomers responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning on an RBI single from Chad Mozingo and a passed ball and brought the tying run to the plate but could pull no closer in the frame. Ty Nelson doubled and scored in the fourth to bring Schaumburg within 5-3 but the CornBelters put the game away with three runs in the fifth, two of which came on a homer from Ruiz.
Joe Parsons suffered the loss, pitching six innings and allowing eight runs. The loss halted a franchise best six-game home winning streak and was the first at home this season. The game also brought to an end a streak of five straight games with six or more runs scored. Schaumburg took two of three in the series.
The Evansville Otters will visit Boomers Stadium to open a three-game series on Friday night at 6:30 p.m. RHP Mike Giovenco (0-1, 3.00) will take the ball for the Boomers opposite LHP Matt Zielinski (0-0, 2.92). Stick around after the game for a Disney-themed fireworks display.
