ThunderBolts Even Series, Set Up Rubber Match

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — The Schaumburg Boomers battled back from an early deficit before eventually dropping a 10-5 decision at the hands of the Windy City ThunderBolts Wednesday evening at Boomers Stadium.
The Boomers (45-35) found themselves in a 3-0 hole early after the ThunderBolts (47-32) collected single tallies in each of the game’s first three innings. A leadoff single in the first by Karexon Sanchez was all Schaumburg could muster in the first three frames against arguably the Frontier League’s best pitcher in 2012, Mike Recchia of Windy City, who improved to 11-2 with the win Wednesday.
The Boomers offense came to life in the fourth breaking through for four runs against Recchia to take a 4-3 lead. Steve McQuail singled sharply to center with one out and the next batter, Sean Mahley, drew a walk to put runners on first and second for the red-hot Jereme Milons. The Boomers centerfielder snapped Recchia’s 30 1/3 consecutive innings without allowing an earned run with a three-run, 400-foot blast to center. Schaumburg took a brief lead when the newest member of the Boomers Chase Fontaine singled and was thrown out trying to advance to second, but not before Nate Baumann scored from third and put the Boomers in front.
Highlighted by a Chris Wade home run off Boomers starter Cameron Roth, who fell to 8-7 as a member of Boomers, and a two-run double off the bat of Zach Aakhus, Windy City answered with a five run fifth inning to put the game effectively out of reach. The ThunderBolts bullpen held the Boomers scoreless over the game’s final 3.1 innings as the Boomers fell to 28-13 at home in 2012.
The final game of this three-game set between the Boomers and ThunderBolts is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Boomers Stadium as RHP Robby Donovan (8-4, 3.36) matches up against RHP Dustin Williams (10-5, 4.77) for Windy City.
