Rascals Rally Past Boomers in Finale

O’FALLON, Mo. — The Schaumburg Boomers could not hold a 5-0 lead in the finale of a three-game set in suburban St. Louis on Thursday night, falling 7-5 to the River City Rascals.
The return of Chad Mozingo to the middle of the lineup loomed large. Mozingo missed eight days with the lingering effects of a concussion but recorded an RBI single in the first. Mozingo extended the lead to 4-0 with a three-run homer to right in the third and added a solo homer to left in the fifth. River City had scored one run in just over five games but erupted for seven in the bottom of the fifth to take the lead. Doug Sanders tied the game with a double off the wall against starter Matt Kuna (2-4) and Charlie Lisk hit the first River City homer of the series to hand the Rascals the lead. Kuna pitched 4.2 innings in the defeat.
The Boomers (43-32) still took two of three in the road series but left the tying runs on base in the sixth and eighth. Schaumburg travels to the East Division leaders, Traverse City, for the next three games. LHP Cameron Roth (8-5, 2.87) starts for the Boomers opposite RHP Scott Dunn (4-3, 3.38).
