Boomers Blanked at Windy City

CRESTWOOD, Ill. — Windy City’s Stephen Sauer tossed a complete game shutout as the ThunderBolts topped the Schaumburg Boomers 3-0 on Monday night.
Sauer (6-4) allowed just four hits in the win for Windy City, becoming the second ThunderBolt to toss a shutout this year. Sauer struck out eight including back-to-back hitters in the ninth. Windy City scored a pair of runs in the first inning on RBI singles from Chad Cregar and Bob Glover. Cregar added a solo homer in the sixth, his fifth of the season against the Boomers.
Robby Donovan suffered the hard luck loss for the Boomers. Donovan (6-3), who was activated from the seven-day injured reserve list before the game after missing a start with a blister, tossed his second consecutive complete game and the third of the season for Schaumburg. Donovan struck out nine, recording strikeouts in five different innings. The righty fanned the side in the third. Sean Mahley recorded two of the four hits for the Boomers.
The series concludes with a 10:35 a.m. contest on Tuesday in the rubber match. RHP Matt Kuna (2-1, 3.55) starts for the Boomers opposite RHP Mike Recchia (8-2, 2.45).
