Gateway Homers Past Boomers

SAUGET, Ill. — The Gateway Grizzlies hit three homers to overcome a 3-0 deficit and take down the Schaumburg Boomers in the opener of a six-game roadtrip on Thursday night by a 4-3 score.
The Boomers opened a 3-0 lead in the third inning. Jereme Milons recorded his third homer of the season with one away and Frank Pfister notched a two-run double later in the frame. The lead appeared to be more than enough for Matt Kuna, who was cruising. Jerod Yakubik homered for Gateway in the fourth to trim the deficit and a pair of sixth inning homers put Gateway ahead. Chris McClendon connected on a two-run shot to tie the game before John Shelby followed with a solo homer to put the hosts in front. Kuna (2-1) pitched a season high 6.2 innings and struck out a career best seven but suffered the loss. Schaumburg (33-22) could not even the score, leaving nine on base. The Boomers have dropped three consecutive contests.
The series continues on Friday night with a 7:05 p.m. affair featuring a pair of All-Stars. LHP Cameron Roth (6-3, 2.91) pitches for the Boomers opposite RHP Tim Brown (5-2, 2.07).
