2024 Boomers Coaching Staff
It is with great pleasure that the Schaumburg Boomers announce the coaching staff for the 2024 season. The coaching staff returns everyone with an additional new face but not new to the Schaumburg area.
Manager Jamie Bennett returns for his 12th season at the helm. The lone manager in franchise history has won four titles and guided the Boomers to the 2023 Frontier League Wild Card game after winning the title in 2021 and to the Championship Series in 2022. The Boomers have been in the playoffs in six of the 11 seasons with Bennett at the helm. With 575 career victories, Bennett ranks seventh in league history.
Bill Fratto has been on the staff of Jamie Bennett for all but one year and will return for his 11th season in 2024 as an assistant coach and first base coach. The head coach at Oakton Community College, Fratto has built the Owls into one of the best programs in the country and always helps to fire up the crowd at Wintrust Field.
Nick Oddo returns to Bennett’s staff as the hitting coach for 2024. Oddo was a catcher for the Boomers from 2017-2022 and was a member of two championship teams and three playoff squads during his five seasons. The left-handed hitter is the team’s career leader in games played and ranks among the franchise’s all-time leaders in several categories.
“I am very pleased to have Nick as our hitting coach. Nick has done a tremendous amount for this organization over the years, and I am excited to see him continue to do so in this role. His work ethic and commitment to this team has been a very special part of so many successful seasons" said Manager Jamie Bennett
The 2024 coaching staff will feature just one new face in the dugout, Bench Coach Rick Korte. Korte, who now resides in Schaumburg, Illinois, is the former CEO, President and Managing Director of HEIDENHAIN Holding. In this capacity, he managed 9 separate companies, all serving the motion control technology industry. In his time at HEIDENHAIN, Korte oversaw 500 hundred employees and hundreds of millions of dollars in turnover.
Since retiring in 2020, Korte now spends his time as a professional speaker and mentor, talking about the importance of integrity, accountability, and character building. He has worked with sports teams, Universities, and many corporations in this capacity. During the 2023 season, Rick worked with the Evansville Otters and Manager Andy McCauley, who also was is tied to baseball in Schaumburg.
As a member of the Boomers coaching staff, Korte will serve as a character coach and mental skills coach helping players and coaches set personal goals and become better men, both on and off the baseball field.
Another part of Korte's role will be to assist players and coaches who want professional advice when preparing to enter the workforce, whether that be for a job in the offseason or for their post-playing careers.
Korte will be in constant contact with the team to maintain relationships and check in with players/coaches.
Jake Joyce and Dylan Stutsman both return to the staff for a third season in the dual role of player and coach. The tandem shared pitching coach duties last year and helped the Boomers post an ERA of 4.46. The pitching staff struck out 765 batters in 843 innings while allowing just 795 hits along with the fourth fewest home runs allowed. Joyce will serve as the pitching coach in 2024 while Stutsman holds the title of bullpen coach.
Tony Medina will return to the staff as the Coordinator of Baseball Analytics. He held this position in 2023 after being the hitting coach during the 2022 season. Tony is responsible for breaking down the data that is recorded through out the season using the Yakkertech System and working with hitters and pitchers to adjust and better their performance.
