Boomers Sign Gold Glove Shortstop
The 4-Time Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers and Manager Jamie Bennett are excited to announce the signing of Infielder Tyler Depreta-Johnson for the 2024 season. Tyler Depreta Johnson arrives in Schaumburg after 3 seasons in the Frontier League with the Joliet Slammers.
Tyler arrives in Schaumburg after 3 seasons in Joliet with the Slammers and spent the 2020 season in Joliet for the City of Champions Cup with the Tully Monsters. In his time with the Slammers, Tyler, a native of Rancho Santa Margarita, CA, had a career batting average of .219, 87 RBI’s and 5 home runs in 257 games. Tyler has also stolen 30 bases in 33 attempts in his time in Joliet. In the field, Depreta-Johnson has a career fielding percentage of 97.5%, worthy of a gold glove, which he earned in his college days at Houston Baptist University.
“We are excited to have Tyler joining our club. Tyler is on the best defensive players I have seen in a long time. His experience and leadership will be a huge asset for us on the field and in the clubhouse,” said Manager Jamie Bennett about the new addition to the Boomers.
During his time with the Huskies of Houston Baptists, now Houston Christian University, Tyler compiled a stat line of .279 batting average, 53 runs batted in and 7 home runs. In 2018, Tyler was awarded the ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division 1 Gold Glove Award. In that season, Depreta-Johnson committed only 1 error in 283 chances and finished the season without an error in his final 232 chances or 48 games.
