Boomers Re-Sign Batterymates for 2023
The Schaumburg Boomers and Manager Jamie Bennett have re-signed Catcher Cris Ruiz and Pitcher Kristian Scott to contract extensions for the 2023 season. This will be the second season for the Boomers for Ruiz and third for Scott.
Ruiz came to the Boomers in 2022 after spending time with the Great Falls Voyagers in 2021. With the Voyagers, Ruiz hit for an average of .322 with 2 homeruns and 20 runs batted in. Ruiz, a native of Bridgeport, CT, played his college baseball at St. Thomas Aquinas in Sparkill, NY. While at St. Thomas Aquinas, Cris hit for an average of .254 with 10 homeruns and 72 RBI’s. Last year with the Boomers, Cris was the primary backup for Nick Oddo, driving in 9 with 2 homeruns. Ruiz looks to take a larger role in the catching position for the Boomers in 2023.
Kristian Scott returns to the Schaumburg bullpen after a great season in 2022. Scott went 5-2 with a 2.20 ERA in 45 innings. Over those innings, Scott struck out 48 batters and walked only 18. Scott was a key piece in the bullpen last season with the great ability to work out of jams. Scott, originally from Pasadena, CA, played his college ball at Chico State in Chico, CA, pitched 2 years with a career ERA of 1.69. Scott looks to increase his role in the bullpen this season with Boomers closer Darrell Thompson off to the Milwaukee Brewers organization.
