Veteran Arm Returns to Bullpen
Schaumburg, IL - The Schaumburg Boomers have re-signed left-handed reliever, Darrell Thompson. The reliever will be back for his fifth season with the Boomers and help the club defend their 2021 Frontier League Championship. In 2021, Thompson was a strong arm out of the bullpen as he appeared in 24 games and 24 innings. During those 24 innings, Thompson struck out 31 batters to go along with his 3.86 ERA.
Before joining the Schaumburg Boomers in 2018, Thompson was a part of the Roswell Invaders of the Pecos League for the 2016 & 2017 seasons before joining the Gary SouthShore RailCats of the American Association at the end of the 2017 season.
“I am really excited to have Darrell back with us. His experience and what he does for our bullpen is a hard thing to find. Being a lefty and able to shut things down in the back end of the pen will really help solidify this staff,” said Manager Jamie Bennett.
Thompson attended Shenandoah University, located in Winchester, VA. Thompson played four years for the Hornets baseball team, where he earned multiple awards in first-team All-ODAC and ODAC Pitcher of the Year during his sophomore season. Thompson finished his college career with a 3.23 ERA in 261 innings pitched and 231 strikeouts, all for Shenandoah.
The Boomers return home to Wintrust Field in the spring to defend their 2021 Frontier League Championship.
