Arjona Pitches Boomers to Series Win
ARJONA PITCHES BOOMERS TO SERIES WIN
CRESTWOOD, IL — Kyle Arjona carried a shutout into the ninth inning and allowed just two hits in a second consecutive complete game as the Schaumburg Boomers finished off a 4-2 roadtrip with a 5-2 victory over the Windy City ThunderBolts.
The Boomers built a 4-0 lead in the second by taking advantage of two errors. Clint Hardy drew a bases loaded walk to force home the first run and Brett Milazzo followed by being hit by a pitch to force home another. Matt McGarry recorded an RBI single, just the second hit of the frame, and Chase Dawson plated the final run with a groundout. Schaumburg extended the lead to 5-0 when Quincy Nieporte logged an RBI double in the seventh, scoring Dawson, who leads the league in runs.
Arjona, the Frontier League Pitcher of the Week, did not allow a hit until the sixth inning and appeared destined for a second consecutive shutout after retiring nine straight into the ninth inning but a pair of errors and a walk opened the door for two runs to score. Arjona finished off the complete game with a strikeout, his seventh of the game to go with just one walk, throwing 116 pitches. Milazzo finished with three hits and was on base five times in the win while McGarry and Luke Becker also tallied two apiece.
The Boomers (18-14) sit atop the Central Division and are four games over the .500 mark for the first time this year. Schaumburg has won four consecutive road series. The team returns home tomorrow night for a 6:30 p.m. contest to kick off Independence Day weekend with the first of three consecutive nights of postgame fireworks on Country Night, presented by US99. LHP Andrew Dean (1-3, 5.79) is scheduled to start against LHP Gunnar Kines (0-1, 4.57). Visit boomersbaseball.com for tickets and information or call 847-461-3695.
