We're Back: Boomers Return to the Field
SCHAUMBURG, IL — The Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, returned to the field for the first time since September 1, 2019 by opening the year with a 15-2 defeat at the hands of the Evansville Otters in the 2021 opener at Wintrust Field.
Evansville built a 10-0 lead in the first three innings, scoring three in the first, one in the second and six in the third to chase starter Kyle Arjona from the game. The Boomers were able to get on the board in the bottom of the third when Nick Oddo was hit by a pitch and scored on a double from Angelo Gumbs. Matt McGarry doubled home Luke Becker in the fifth to account for the other run.
Arjona suffered the loss, working 2.2 innings. Stephen Chamblee threw 3.1 innings before Dallas Bryan, Andrew Cartier and Quincy Nieporte tossed scoreless frames to end the contest. McGarry finished with three hits. Nieporte added two. The Boomers drew six walks and totaled four extra-base hits.
