Nieporte Lifts Boomers to Series Opening Win
SCHAUMBURG, IL — Quincy Nieporte hit a grand slam in the bottom of the third inning as the Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, opened the final series of the season with a 4-3 victory over the River City Rascals.
Jimmy Galusky and Dylan Jones singled with one away in the third and Jack Parenty loaded the bases with a two-out infield knock. Nieporte throttled his 13th homer of the season over the wall in left-center with two strikes to add to his team record RBI total and account for the only four runs. River City scored a single run in the fourth and scored twice with two outs in the eighth before Darrell Thompson worked out of the frame. Connor Eller worked the ninth to match the single season team record for saves with 21.
Connor Reed grabbed the win in relief, working three frames. The pitching staff struck out 10, marking the seventh game out of the last eight with 10 or more strikeouts. Schaumburg owns 13 games with double-digit strikeouts in August and 21 in the second half. Parenty and Luis Roman tallied two hits each to lead the offense.
