SCHAUMBURG, IL — The Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, received plenty of recognition as the Frontier League announced the postseason award winners on Thursday.

David Harris received the Morgan Burkhart Award as the Frontier League’s Most Valuable Player. Harris is the first player in team history to earn the MVP award and was also named as a postseason All-Star in the outfield. A first-year member of the Boomers, Harris has re-written the offensive record book this season. The Houston, Texas native set the single season record for RBIs with 64 and ranks fifth in the league. Harris also sits second in the league with a batting average of .347, which will end as a Schaumburg record. The right-handed hitter picked up a pair of Frontier League weekly awards this season.

Harris carried the team on his back at various points this year, producing three games with six or more RBIs. The Frontier League mid-season All-Star owns three multi-homer games and leads the team with 13 homers on the season. During a game against Windy City on June 20, Harris matched the league and team record by homering three times. Harris also finished with a team record six hits, equaling the league mark, and drove home a team record eight runs.

Harris was not the only individual to collect postseason hardware. Manager Jamie Bennett, the only skipper in team history, picked up his second Roger Hanners Award as the Manager of the Year. Bennett, who also received the award in 2013, has guided Schaumburg to a record 2017 campaign that has seen the team sit in first place for all but one day.

The Boomers won the Frontier League East Division title following a pair of losing seasons in 2015 and 2016. The division crown marked the second in team history. Schaumburg has set a franchise record for wins and owns the best record in the league with four contests remaining on the docket, earning homefield advantage through the playoffs, which begin on September 5. The playoff appearance will mark the third in six seasons as a franchise. Around all of the team’s accomplishments this year, four players have been sold to the affiliated ranks. Bennett secured his 300th career win on August 1 in a 13-inning victory over the Lake Erie Crushers.

Additionally, the Schaumburg Boomers were named as the Frontier League’s Organization of the Year for the second consecutive season and for the third time in team history.

Schaumburg leads the league in attendance at 157,176 total fans for a nightly average of 3,416, also best in the league. Eight dates have seen more than 5,000 fans cycle through the gates of Boomers Stadium including a pair of over 7,000. The team will likely finish leading the league in attendance for a fourth consecutive season and has provided a wide-range of promotions and events to highlight fun in the northwest suburbs.
