Boomers Rebound to Rout Lake Erie
AVON, Ohio —The Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, rebounded from a difficult loss on Friday by turning the tables and handing the Lake Erie Crushers a 13-3 defeat on the road Saturday night.
Schaumburg scored in six different innings to cruise to the victory with the pitching staff registering 15 strikeouts. John Holland handed the Boomers the early lead with a first inning RBI single. Leading 3-1, Schaumburg broke the game open with five runs in the fourth including a back-to-back two-run doubles from David Harris and Holland. Harris finished with four hits and six RBIs, setting the Schaumburg single season record for RBIs. Holland drove home three. Kyle Ruchim scored twice, setting the single season record for runs scored with 71. The Boomers finished with 11 hits in the contest.
Kit Fowler was the beneficiary of the run support. Fowler struck out a career high nine in 5.2 innings to move to 3-1 on the year. The rookie overcame a liner off the foot in the fourth to win his second consecutive start. Garrett Kelly, Evan Boyd, Rob McDonnell and Jake Joyce finished out the decision.
The Boomers (54-23) continue to own the best record in the league and hold a commanding lead in the East Division while closing in on a playoff berth.
