Boomers Secure 50th Victory to Sweep Joliet
SCHAUMBURG, IL —The Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, reached the 50-win marker by downing the Joliet Slammers 3-1 on Sunday to sweep a four-game weekend series and cap a 6-1 homestand.
Kit Fowler limited Joliet to just three hits in six shutout innings, striking out eight to earn his first win as a starter. David Harris handed the Boomers a 1-0 lead just three batters into the game by tallying a third consecutive single. Josh Gardiner drove home runs in the fourth and eighth to stretch the margin to 3-0 while four relievers combined to finish the win. Kyle Westwood picked up his third save with a strikeout to leaving the tying run at second in the ninth. Kyle Ruchim paced a nine-hit attack with three hits while Gardiner added two run-scoring singles.
The Boomers (50-22) are the first team in the league to reach 50 wins and achieved the marker faster than any other point in franchise history. The team owns four seasons with 50 or more wins in the sixth years of existence. Schaumburg owns the best record in the league and holds a commanding lead in the East Division.
