Boomers Swept in Doubleheader
AVON, OH — The Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, were swept by the Lake Erie Crushers in a doubleheader on Saturday.
Schaumburg has now dropped a season high five straight after accumulating just 10 total hits. Lake Erie plated five runs in the bottom of the fourth to break open the first game as part of an 8-0 win. Lake Erie starter Juan Caballero pitched a complete game, striking out eight. The Boomers held a 2-0 lead in the second contest but could not hang on for a 3-2 extra-inning loss. Sean Godfrey connected on his third homer of the season in the first inning with two strikes and two outs. David Harris added an RBI double in fourth. Lake Erie evened the game in the fifth and won the contest when former Boomer Jordan Dean notched a game-winning single in the eighth.
Aryton Costa took the loss in the opener, allowing seven runs in four innings. Preston Jamison started the second contest and did not allow a hit until the fourth, striking out seven in a no-decision. Jake Joyce fanned the side in the seventh but suffered the loss. The pitching staff struck out 14 in the second game with Garrett Kelly adding three and Kyle Westwood one. Five different individuals posted hits in each game.
The Boomers, who lead the East Division by five games, have dropped three consecutive series and will look to avoid being swept in a three-game series for this first time this season on Sunday afternoon.
